Our mission is to solve the shortage of Traditional Topographic Maps. It’s not that there is lack of Topographic Maps, there is a shortage of Printable Topographic maps – every map you can find these days is an online map compatible with GPS and there is a benefit in using those, but there is also benefit in using both Traditional and GPS based Topograhic Maps. You may be asking yourself then, why not just use any internet map and print it? Unfortunately, the process is not as simple as that, take Google Maps for example (or any other online map for that matter) – it uses spherical Mercator EPSG 3857 for its projection, what you need to understand that this projection is specifically designed for online maps and it does not preserve any distance, in fact it doesn’t preserve anything, but distorts everything. Precise scale and correct measurements are of the utmost importance for any Topographic Map, but this distortion causes problems when trying to measure distances accurately, especially for large areas or in higher latitudes.
